This is definitely a book that I like to spread out over several sessions because there is so much to cover and so many goals that could be targeted utilizing it!
One of my favorite activities to do in association with this book is the mailman activity. I actually have the game from a Linguisystems language games book. I colored, glued onto construction paper, and laminated the pieces to this activity. Each "envelope" comes with a delivery direction. The kiddos pull their delivery out of the mailbox, read it (or hear it), and based on the directions, find the home or business on the accompanying map that is being described. LOVE IT! The map has a variety of concepts worked in: big/small, middle, few, many, none, tall, short, etc. You get to talk about the differences between businesses and homes, etc. etc. Endless. The mailbox is from the $1 spot at Target... I think it was around Valentine's Day I picked up that gem!
